nascent

nascent [ˈnæsənt] a.

1.) Commencing, or in process of development; beginning to exist or to grow; coming into being; as, a nascent germ.
2.) (Chem.) Evolving; being evolved or produced; as, nascent oxygen (GNU Collaborative International Dictionary of English).

Etymology: Latin nascens, present participle of nasci, to be born.

"Assuredly the being able to reach, at each stage of increased size, to a supply of food, left untouched by the other hoofed quadrupeds of the country, would have been of some advantage to the nascent giraffe" (On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection, Charles Darwin, 1859).

(Dante Alighieri, Giotto di Bondone, ~1310)

Hm no, I don't climb. It's kind of an expensive hobby here (don't know about the prices for a membership in a club in England). I've done the regular "introduction to indoor wall climbing" back in secondary school (we had introductions to just about everything), but never moved on to the more exciting stuff.
At my internship there was a guy, one of the safety advisors, who practised wall climbing, and I always admired how fit he looked, despite being nearly fifty.

I've heard this word numerous times growing up. Discovery Channel/Nat Geo docs FTW!

Another new word, yay. I actually find doing the contest helps cement the words into my vocab as well. (I'm currently working on my entry at the same time.)

I like words that end with "cent." I just do.

Also, nice take on the monuments of the East and West. Never thought of it that way.
